Rainy April night

Perfect pawprints, come morning

Show how far we’ve gone

How brief, how fragile -

Would beauty still allure us

If it did not fade?

The unknown looms large

Turn into it and open

like leaves to the sun

Melt in summer heat

Realize it’s only April

Take me back inside

Nothing gold can stay.
